We Welcomes Bus tours and Groups by appointment. We provide visitors with the opportunity to see and hear what is involved in this exciting new enterprise. And the first thing you are going to learn is that there are more emus farmed outside Australia than in their country of origin!
Emu farming was started in Queensland by the Cherbourg Aboriginal Community outside Murgon in 1989. Today the Cherbourg and TJURINGA emu enterprises are working together to develop a new industry based on the farming of one of Australia’s native species.
It is different to the farming of traditional European introduced species in many ways, but the most important is in the products produced. Whilst farmed emu meat is one of the healthiest red meats you can buy, the real value from emus comes from the fat, which produces EMU OIL.
Australian aborigines have used EMU OIL for centuries to assist with the relief of pain and stiffness in muscles and joints. It is also excellent as a NATURAL skin conditioner, moisturiser and can assist with the repair of dry or irritated skin. As well as this EMU OIL is classified as a food meaning that it is “Safe Enough to Eat”.
At TJURINGA we look forward to providing your group with the opportunity to learn more about the farming of this versatile bird and to have the opportunity to learn more about the wonderful products, which are produced from emu meat, oil and leather. You will
